The average percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards in reading, math, writing and science at the seven Inspiration Award-winning

How local schools invested their Inspiration Awards grants from 2009:

  • Classroom audio amplification systems
  • Classroom technology, including Smart Boards, Promethean Boards, Whiteboard Responders
  • Professional development (seminars, conferences, speakers, educational materials) on topics such as differentiated instruction, positive behavioral supports, scheduling and more
  • Computer software for remedial and enrichment activities
  • Staffing after-school homework assistance programs/clubs
  • Peer assistance programs, including training in friendship and resolution strategies, incentives to ensure inclusion in recess, lunch, school activities
  • Academic tutoring programs, before and after school
  • Family Nights for parents and other adults to receive training and strategies to use at home to help ensure academic success
  • Substitute teacher pay, to support increased collaboration and common planning time between general and special education teachers, including ESL teachers, as well as off-campus collaboration between schools
  • Supplemental/adapted textbooks
  • Hosting of Disability Awareness Fair
